Questions, considered.

A few things gardeners often ask about Coastal Compost, the Coastal Kelp Range, delivery and dosage.

Coastal Compost

  • Coastal Compost is our flagship peat-free compost — a blend of composted organic matter with coastal inputs and natural trace minerals. It is designed to feed the soil as well as the plant, helping support soil structure, root establishment and microbial activity.

  • Yes. Coastal Compost is fully peat-free and free from synthetic fertilisers.

  • Yes. It is designed to be suitable for vegetable patches, fruit, herbs and raised beds, and can help support edible crops through the season.

  • Yes. Coastal Compost works well in raised beds — either as the main fill, mixed with existing soil, or as a seasonal top-up of 5–8 cm forked lightly into the surface.

  • For top-ups, a 3–5 cm layer is usually enough. For filling raised beds, 1,300L covers a meaningful project — a typical 2m × 1m × 0.3m bed holds about 600L. Get in touch and we can suggest a sensible quantity.

  • 40L bags suit smaller jobs, pots and top-ups. The 600L bulk bag is a contained option for larger volumes where loose tipped delivery is not possible. The 1,300L loose tipped delivery is our best-value option, tipped directly where access allows.

Delivery

  • We deliver loose tipped Coastal Compost across Cornwall and Devon — within a 15-mile radius of Torpoint for £140. That comfortably covers south-east Cornwall (Saltash, Liskeard, Looe, the Rame Peninsula) and Plymouth and parts of west Devon. For addresses outside the 15-mile radius, an additional 65p per mile applies, confirmed before payment. Bagged and bulk bag orders can be arranged more widely across Cornwall and Devon — please enquire.

  • Loose tipped delivery is calculated by road distance from Torpoint, on the Cornwall–Devon border. The first 15 miles are included in the £140 price. Beyond 15 miles, we add 65p per additional mile and confirm the final cost manually before payment is taken.

  • All loose tipped delivery distances are calculated from our local base at Torpoint, on the Cornwall side of the Tamar opposite Plymouth in Devon.

  • Yes, where access allows. Loose tipped delivery requires suitable access for a vehicle to tip safely. If access is restricted, the 600L bulk bag or 40L bags may be a better option.

  • Please tell us about narrow lanes, steep drives, low branches, parked cars, turning restrictions, steps, gates or difficult access. We will confirm what's possible before accepting your order.

  • We will calculate the approximate distance from Torpoint and apply 65p per mile beyond the 15-mile radius. The final delivery cost is confirmed manually before payment is taken.

Coastal Kelp Range

  • The Coastal Kelp Range is a small set of kelp-based biostimulant products designed to complement Coastal Compost and support plants through the growing season.

  • Coastal Fermented Kelp is designed for watering in new plants, soil support and root establishment. Coastal Unfiltered Kelp is a richer seasonal soil drench for established plants. Coastal Foliar Spray is a filtered kelp spray for direct application to leaves during active growth.

  • As a general guide, around 2.5L of kelp biostimulant is enough for up to 1,000m² of garden over a season. Most domestic gardens need much less — regular, light use is the best approach.

  • Yes. The products are concentrated and designed for careful, light use. Do not apply undiluted unless instructed, do not keep increasing the dose if plants look healthy, and avoid repeated heavy applications.

  • Yes — they are designed to be used alongside each other. Coastal Compost supports the soil; the Coastal Kelp Range supports plants once they are in the ground.
