Why farm kelp?

Kelp farming, in proportion

No farmland or freshwater

Kelp cultivation needs no agricultural land, freshwater irrigation or conventional fertiliser inputs.

Takes up nutrients from the water

As it grows, kelp takes up dissolved nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus from the surrounding water.

Habitat and shelter

The ropes and fronds create three-dimensional structure that provides habitat and shelter for marine organisms.

Depends on the farm

The environmental benefits of individual farms depend on their location, scale and management, but responsible cultivation can combine useful production with positive ecological functions.

Application guidance

How much do I need?

Each product is concentrated and designed to be used carefully through the growing season, not applied heavily. Dilution and application rates are printed on the bottle label, contact us if you are unsure.

Typical garden use

For most domestic gardens, one 1L bottle of each product should be enough for a full growing season when used as directed.

  • 1L Fermented Kelp for planting, transplanting and early root establishment
  • 1L Unfiltered Kelp Soil Drench for occasional seasonal soil drenches
  • 1L Filtered Kelp Foliar Spray for light foliar applications during active growth

Avoid overuse

  • Do not apply undiluted
  • Do not keep increasing the dose if plants already look healthy
  • Avoid repeated heavy applications
  • Apply to moist soil where possible
  • Do not apply in hot direct sun, especially for foliar sprays
  • For foliar sprays, test on a small area first if applying to delicate plants
